Glass Brother is the eleventh episode in the Salad Fingers series.
Plot
Salad Fingers is sitting outside, talking to his reflection through a hand mirror. He shows the mirror Hubert Cumberdale, Marjory Stewart-Baxter, and Jeremy Fisher. He notices that Marjory didn’t get a haircut, despite all three finger puppets looking dirty and unkempt. As punishment, Salad Fingers rips out Marjory’s hair with his teeth until he chokes and gags, dropping to the ground. Salad Fingers asks Hubert, who is lying on the ground, if he finds the situation amusing. He then compliments Jeremy as the “best behaved” and that he’ll be first in the bathtub tonight, causing a water puddle to form underneath Hubert’s head (this most likely means that Hubert is crying). Salad Fingers’ reflection tells Hubert that he’ll never become a real boy, causing the puddle to grow slightly larger. Salad Fingers puts down the mirror and sits back, visibly becoming sad.
In the next scene, Salad Fingers is at home now. Hubert is laying on a table next to various “tools”. Salad Fingers states that he thinks Hubert is ready to “grow up a little.” He opens a drawer containing a container of flesh pieces (supposedly those of Harry), grabs a piece, and sews it onto Hubert. He continues to “recreate” Hubert for a while. When he is finished, Salad Fingers introduces the “new and improved” Hubert Cumberdale to the audience (breaking the 4th wall). Hubert stands up and walks to the front, stating that he is ready for life. Visibly overjoyed, Salad Fingers squeezes Hubert to the point where he is choked up. Hubert tells him that he’s a big boy now.
Salad Fingers fawns over Hubert while folding some clothes in his bedroom. He walks up to his bedroom mirror, telling his reflection that he wouldn’t understand. Suddenly, an elderly woman appears in the mirror behind Salad Fingers’ reflection. She calls him a stupid boy and demands Salad Fingers get her a bowl of porridge, to which he obliges.
When Salad Fingers brings the bowl of “porridge” (it is black and lumpy), he tries to pass it through the mirror but is unable to, repeatedly tapping the mirror with the bowl. Glass Mother insults Salad Fingers, causing him to cry while he continues to attempt to pass the porridge over. His reflection also insults him. Glass Mother tells Salad Fingers that he’ll forever be a lonely reflection. Salad Fingers says that it’s not fair and he wants to go home. His reflection says that his “cacky spider fingers” aren’t going anywhere, which hurts Salad Fingers’ feelings.
Salad Fingers goes outside, with Hubert following him behind. Hubert asks Salad Fingers why his brother is so mean, to which Salad Fingers replies “he was raised under the beast’s sun”. They come upon a puddle of water. Salad Fingers bends over to see Glass Brother. Salad Fingers asks him to step aside so that he can enter the reflected world- Glass Brother refuses. Salad Fingers tries to force his way in by shoving his head through the puddle (while Hubert stares out into the distance, heavily breathing), but fails. Glass Brother proceeds to punish him with a stern rasping; he repeatedly shouts the word “rasp” until Salad Fingers tells him to stop.
Later on, Salad Fingers is in the kitchen cooking, stirring a pot with his finger while holding his hand mirror with his other hand. Glass Mother is in the mirror, instructing him to add specific ingredients to the pot, including speckled huckleberry leaf. Salad Fingers pleads to her, telling her that speckled huckleberry leaf gives him digestion problems and that he doesn’t want another fever. Glass Mother angrily states that he’ll do as she tells him to, threatening to come out of the mirror and poke out his eyes. Salad Fingers is then seen sitting at the kitchen table, looking at the bowl of substance while holding a spoon and his hand mirror. Glass Mother demands that he eats all of it, much to Salad Fingers’ dismay. He scoops the substance with the spoon and, hesitantly, forces it into his mouth. He gags and looks at Glass Mother.
After finishing the substance, Salad Fingers vomits on the floor and lays down on his bed, holding onto his stomach and groaning in pain. Hubert slides up to Salad Fingers, telling him that he’ll clean up the vomit. Salad Fingers tells him he is a good lad. Glass Brother asks who he is talking to. Salad Fingers introduces him to Hubert, dreamily describing him. Suddenly, Glass Brother reaches out of the mirror and snatches Hubert. Salad Fingers cries out for Hubert as he runs to the bedroom mirror, pounding on it, while Glass Mother tells Glass Brother to stick Hubert in the coal shed. Salad Fingers watches him leave.
At night, Salad Fingers quietly leaves his house and walks over to the puddle. He sees that his reflection doesn’t show up. He dives head first and sinks into the puddle, entering the reflected world. It is dark and quiet, with only the sounds of water moving around Salad Fingers. He starts to drift towards an upside down version of his house. He drifts more towards his bedroom window, entering the bedroom. He floats above Glass Brother, who is sleeping, and looks around the room, finding Hubert inside of a glass jar sitting on a table. As he’s about to grab the jar, Glass Brother awakens and greets him in a polite manner, causing Salad Fingers to fall down. Salad Fingers, holding the jar, tells him that he shouldn’t have stolen Hubert. This causes Glass Brother to open his mouth, revealing moving nails for his teeth, and starts to twitch and distort violently, walking towards Salad Fingers. As he backs away, he sees Glass Mother, who smashes the bedroom mirror and cackles evily, while also violently twitching and distorting. Salad Fingers moves away from the two as they increasingly twitch and distort more. As Glass Brother approaches him, Salad Fingers smiles and throws the jar into the vomit puddle, which sinks into it. As Salad Fingers prepares to go into the puddle, he looks at his brother, who is angry. He then dives and sinks into the puddle.
Salad Fingers lands in his bedroom. Hubert is now laying on the floor, the jar shattered. Glass Brother’s fingers emerge from the puddle but Salad Fingers pushes them down. Glass Mother reaches out of the hand mirror, continuously insulting and swearing at Salad Fingers. He proceeds to break the mirror, but it causes her face to appear in the multiple glass shards. The insulting audibly grows a bit. Salad Fingers continues to smash the glass pieces into powder, as the insults grows more and more. He then starts to crush the pieces with his fist, causing him to bleed. When the berating quiets down, he stops to catch his breath. Hubert slides next to him, in front of the glass pieces. Salad Fingers sees Hubert, grabs him, and rubs his head on the glass pieces. With Hubert’s face covered in glass shards, Salad Fingers proceeds to lick the glass off from part of his face. He stops and smiles.
At the end, Salad Fingers holds up a small shard of glass that has Glass Mother in it, who is still berating him. He slices his finger with the glass shard and wipes his blood on the front, covering Glass Mother. He then places the glass shard in a small box and closes it, silencing her.
